Proud Momma

I'll be the first to admit that the last couple of weeks have been a little tough in getting emotionally adjusted to the fact that Colin is already 5 years old and starting Kindergarten.  As hard as it is to watch my baby grow up, it's amazing to watch his flourish into such a kind and thoughtful individual.
He has always been a sweet child.  He can never give or receive enough hugs and kisses.  He says "please" and "thank you" with ease and is (most of the time) looking out for his younger brother.  The compliments are usually free-flowing and straight from the heart.  On my mom's birthday, he called to wish her a Happy Birthday and then wanted to know what she was wearing.  I can only assume that was some internal mechanism working that allows him to picture the person he's talking to or perhaps that was just his way of making conversation.  Either way, my mom thought it was sweet that he cared.
His care and concern for others is amazing to me.  At the ripe age of 5, he already considers the well-being of those around him - more so than most grown ups I know.  Saturday he decided - on his own accord - to collect toys from around the house that he doesn't play with anymore.  Before I could interject, he added the caveat that he would ask Sawyer first to make sure he didn't want any of them.  We then began an in-depth conversation about where these kids live and if they have a house.  I told him most of them probably had some kind of house but they could very well be sharing it with many people.  He asked if he could give them some of his money to help them buy food and things, since they probably have to spend most of their money on their house.  Wow, what a generous spirit!
His mind must have been kicked into full on giving mode because on Sunday after church, he asked if he could bring some of his money next time to give to God?  I assure you the kid doesn't have an endless supply of money (ha!) but he clearly wants to give every penny he has.  I'd love to take the credit for being the selfless person he learned all of this from, but I assure you I have my faults.  As much as I'd love to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, I do not.
So as the summer winds to an end and Kindergarten quickly approaches, I am literally beaming from ear to ear as I watch this little being blossom into an amazing character and spirit.  Colin, Mommy is so proud of you!
