Kid*tog

My mind has been going in a hundred different directions lately.  I have to either write things down (hello, I'm turning into my mother) or stop what I'm doing and go do whatever it is I've just thought of in order to not forget.  I find the quiet times - which are few and far between - are almost overwhelming because of all the ideas, thoughts, and notes that go through my head.  I usually have no less than 5 tabs opened in my browser, so as to not forget to look at something on each site, a couple of emails lingering in the background, and still be typing a blog post.  Seriously, my mind is just always in constant motion.  I'm sure I'm not alone.  Can I get an Amen from the other mothers out there?!

This weekend was a good one.  Yes, it was Wes' birthday but Colin was also in a great mood which equals a good mood for mommy and daddy.  Sunday we were even blessed with a 3+ hour nap!  And the angels rejoiced.  Hmm, there's a lot of spirituality so far in this post.  Does that mean something?  I'm not sure.

Back to our weekend.  Sunday Colin and I set out to bake Daddy's birthday cake.  We got the 3 layers in the oven and as I was making the filing, Colin decided he wanted to make his own 'recipe'.  I fondly recall making masterpieces when I was a kid, so who I was I to deny him.  He got out his whisk (just like mine) and went to town whisking water, salt, pepper, baking soda, and olive oil.  He wanted some other ingredients but I deemed them too pricey and so he stuck with the basics.  Boy was he surprised when I added a dash of vinegar to his concoction and he got to watch it bubble and fizz.  Then came the measuring cups.  He poured and dumped, refilled and emptied until his little heart was content.

And then, he got the camera out (just like mommy) to photograph his masterpiece.  Am I really that transparent?  Do I really do it that often that it seems perfectly normal to him to take a picture of whatever he 'cooks'?  I guess so.  We may just have a little kid*tog in training here.  All pictures courtesy of Colin.

An up close and personal picture of brother.  This is one of my favorites.  Maybe I should retire early and just let him support us on his photography skills.

  1. Amen to that, sista friend! Yeah, after having kids, I suffer from serious "mommy brain." Trying to multi-task too much and not remembering a darn thing. Love the photo of your little guy! How was your trip to the 'Ville?

  3. Haha, love his concoction!

And also, I have to say you are a champ after reading your comment on my nursing post!! It made me hurt just reading it! I like that you called it "strawberry" milk, I had some of that as well and it really grossed me out.

  5. I think it's so great that Colin likes to cook with you! So fun to have a helper in the kitchen. I'm sure it slows things down a bit and adds to the mess but I bet he'll have such great memories of cooking with mom! You might have the next Bobby Flay on your hands! If he's not the next Ansel Adams that is!

  6. Great idea to let him mess around. I'm taking mental notes on things to let Sam do in a couple of years. But like you, I fear unless I actually record them somewhere (other than in my full-of-holes brain), they will be long gone when it's time to actually do them.
