Happy Mother's Day

Today is one of those days that should happen more than once a year.  If you don't already, you should make a point to tell your mom you love her or that you appreciate her every time you talk to her.  I'm thankful for the close relationship I have with my mother and that she is such an integral part of my life.  She has taught me so much and I am the person I am today because of her.  Now that I'm a mother myself, I realize it's not always an easy job but hard or not, it's the best job a woman could ever ask to be blessed with.

My little precious has anxiously been awaiting Mother's Day since the 1-800-flowers commercials started several weeks ago.  For days he has wished me a Happy Muver's Day and it puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.  Today Wes let me sleep in and for once I was actually able to take advantage of it.  I slept until 8:30!  Whoopee!  They had managed to be relatively quiet but were super excited when I finally arose.  Colin was anxious to give me the gifts - or to open them for me.  The first was one he had made in school and the most special for sure:
After seeing this gem, I moved on to the wrapped items, or should I say Colin moved on to the wrapped items!  He had told me yesterday that he was going to get me a toy for Mother's Day.  I asked him if he thought I'd like that and he said "Yes!"  I asked him how many toys I had and he said that I helped him play with his.  Wes and I agreed that in a kid's mind, giving or receiving a toy is probably about the best you could hope for.  So with that, I took this as an honor that he wanted to get me a toy.  Instead, here's what he got me:
It's an interactive book with stickers that he and I can play with and a picture frame with 3 random boys in it!  I'm pretty sure my mom had a hand in the frame selection but it was appreciated nonetheless.

From there we went to breakfast with my mom and dad.  I ate enough for me, Pete, the neighbor kid, and well, an entire army!  It turns out that might not be a bad meal plan considering I couldn't bring myself to eat the rest of the day.  That really frees up a lot of time, ya know?

The best present came around 1pm when he decided to take a nap!  After last weekend's no-nap fiasco, this was a real treat!  Spending the day with my boys was the best Mother's Day gift I could have asked for!!

After the nap we took a tour of the farm associated with the CSA we joined this year.  Colin got to pet a chicken - with my prodding - see some enormous turkeys, some sheep, and some plants.  He thoroughly enjoyed it but the rock collecting was by far his favorite part.

What a great day spent with my 2 boys.  As I tucked Colin in to bed tonight he reminded me again, "Happy Muver's Day!"  What a great ending to a great day.

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers out there (and soon-to-be mothers)!!  You are all wonderful, beautiful women and should be each be commended for taking on one of the hardest, yet most rewarding jobs.  Here's to a day with no poop (already have to mark that one off my list), no whining, no fits/bites/hits, no back talk, but lots of hugs, kisses, and "I love you's!"
